DSM Engineering Plastics has named the new high performance polymer in its Stanyl family previously known as PA4T.
After consulting key customers in global markets, the company has christened the material: ForTii. DSM opened a market development plant for the material in the Netherlands last year which has supplied material for a pre-marketing exercise.
Said business group director Roelof Westerbeek: “We are making excellent progress and are well on schedule in bringing Stanyl ForTii to the market and to extend the number of applications where high performance polyamides can be successful.”
DSM believes that the new Stanyl polymer will meet the need for lead-free soldered surface mount devices such as circuit boards used in personal computers. “Thanks to its high melting point, extreme stiffness over a wide temperature range and high glass transition point, ForTii is like a diamond in the world of plastics,” Westerbeek added.
